TFX (Defense Suppression) - PC (DOS) - Barry Leitch
Music by Barry Leitch
I had the CD version of this, and used to listen to the CD audio in a normal Hif.
I think the CD audio is a recording of the midi music run through a Roland MT-32, which is quite a bit better than the General Midi/soundblaster version.

Silver Surfer (Level 1) - NES - Tim and Geoff Follin
Music by Tim and Geoff Follin.
This one is for Kevin Edwards, who I work with.
This game is famous for being rediculously hard and he made it, so blame him!

Cannon Fodder (intro) - Amiga - Richard Joseph
Music by Richard Joseph
I loved Sensible software as a company, very 'British' in a toungue-in-cheek way (just look at the silly developer photographs!). Its a shame the UK industry seems to have lost its identity and now makes identikit Americanised games.

Arkanoid - C64 - Martin Galway
Music by Martin Galway
Interestingly, this is pretty much the first c64 game that was published that uses a 'hack' to get digitised sounds (the drums).
Apologies for the sporadic updates recently , I've been mad busy at work recently, designing a top secret remake of an old 80's arcade game :-)

Chris Hülsbeck releases R-Type Themes EP
From www.Huelsbeck.com :
More information inclusing track listing at the proper blog post Here
I think my favourite is still the c64 track :)
We are happy to introduce a new digital music release from Chris Huelsbeck Productions / synSONIQ Records: The “R-Type Themes EP” contains the theme music pieces of all the R-Type versions Chris Huelsbeck worked on–starting with the C64, followed by the Amiga and most recently on the iPhone. Included are recordings of the original computer hardware (the C64 Theme on this album was in fact recorded from the exact machine that was used to create the piece in 1989) as well as Remixes / Extended versions produced in the studio and also the live orchestral performance from the Symphonic Shades concert

Contra III (Stage 1) - SNES - Various
Music by Masanori Adachi, Miki Higashino, and "Tappy" Iwase.
Properly Epic opening level music, very orchestral considering the age of the game.
I had great fun playing this co-op with my brother. We completed it lots of times!

The Last V8 - C64 - Rob Hubbard
Music by Rob Hubbard
I remember this one being stupidly hard for some reason. Most older games are, but I dont think I could get very far into this one at all!

Paper Dolls - Fakebit - 4Mat
Music by 4Mat
This is my favourite track off his new album 'Decades' which you can listen to Here. You can also buy this album off iTunes.
I'm thinking of changing the tag of 'Fakebit' (which some people find dismissive) and replacing it with something else. I need something that distinguishes between tracks made and recorded off actual Chip hardware, and tracks made with that particular sound in mind, but with more relaxed restrictions. (eg made on a pc, with more tracks and effects allowed on authentic hardware)
Does anyone have any suggestions? Chip-Inspired?

Klystrack
I've recently been attempting to get AHX or Hivelytracker working on an emulated Amiga (WinUAE) without much success, so I was happy to stumble upon Klystrack.
Its described as 'a chiptune tracker, comparable to AHX'
Features:
- Simple editor familiar to anyone who has ever used a tracker with features from more refined sequencers
- Chiptune synthesis, no samples used
- Instrument programs suitable for arpeggio or more complex patches
- Envelope, ring modulation, filter and more for each channel
- Stereo output
- Reverb for SNES cheese
- Protracker module import (with samples)
- AHX module import (including instruments)
I dont know how close it is to AHX, or how far developed it is, but i'm interested in giving it a go.
Heres a demo track (a cover of Jazzcat's 'Electric City')

The Chipophone - Linus Akesson
Its all over the internet at the moment, but I couldn't really avoid posting this here as its so incredibly geeky and cool!
Click here for his website page with more details.
This is the guy who created the hardware chiptune player i've previously posted about. Clearly a very clever guy! (and can actually play it live!)

Rambo - C64 - Martin Galway
Music by Martin Galway
Interesting fact - The music contains correct morse code at the beginning. This is from Martin himself:
The Morse-code heard in voice 1 at the start of the tune spells out
the names of the games' creators. The decoded Morse-code is below.
The (*) denotes where the tone of the Morse-code drops. The spelling
is slightly incorrect, letter 'i' always translates as an 'e'.
"I wrote that morse code program myself. Nobody touched it but me. It
was written to handle any text. And I spelt the text right! So - if
you're right - the problem must have been the software. I'm assuming
my morsecode book was right of course " (MG)
